No-sew tutu

This is meant to be a christmas present for my 5-year-old niece who just loves all things pink and princesse-y.

So here I used smaller measurements. Off course you can adjust it for and adult.

This tutu is very simple and quick to make. You don't need a machine to make this.

What do you need:

- 3-5 x 1 meter of tule (you can choose which colour you like), this costs about 2 euro/m.

- a piece of ribbon (length depending on the measurements) always add 50cm to the length

1. Start by rolling the tule over the entire lenth of the fabric so you get one long sausage.

2. cut the sausage tule roll in pieces of 10cm.

3. If you unroll it you get 1m long stripes of tule fabric.

4. you cut the tule in half so you get pieces of 50cm long (you can vary

here in length)

5. Take the ribbon and start knotting the tule to the fabric. (see picture)

6. do this for the entire piece (the more layers you add, the fuller and fluffier the skirt gets)

When my niece wears it, I will add a picture of the result here (the skirt is already wrapped up in a present)

Underbust corset (no busk)

I tried my hand at an underbust corset. So let's look at how I made it :)

Okay, first of all, the pattern (you can find it here):

Now, because I don't have a busk at the moment, I closed the corset in the front. The next one I'm going to make, I'll add a busk. That way it'll be easier to put your corset on yourself.

First of all, you're going to have to make it twice, Use some cheap fabric, leftover pieces so you can make a mock-up. This is the best way, if you mess up, you won't have waisted your beautiful fabrics. A corset is pretty hard to make.

Maybe make a drawing about how the corset is going to look like. That'll always come in handy.

Take your measurements as you find them on the website and draw the pieces like you see below.

Mark the pattern pieces with the correct numbers (1, 2, 3, 4 and 5). Also mark the middle back and middle front seam, and the top of the pattern pieces (above lines A)

them to your fabric and cut it out twice for the sturdy fabric and twice for the fashion fabric. For the middle front part I just put the two halves together to create one broad middle part (you see it here on the left). This you have to cut out only once per fabric.

Next thing you do is sew all the parts together. I put always one on the backside and one on the good side so that way you sew them all in one go.

When you are done with that. Add boning to the back side, put the eyelets next to it (the more you add the better you can close your corset) and another bone next to that. That way you have a very sturdy back when you have to pull your corset close.

Now add the rest of the boning. I added one everywhere a seam is.
When you are done with that just sew the top part close with some ribbon as well as the bottom part.

And your corset should be finished.

In the end I realised that metal boning is much better, the plastic ones just bend.

Underbust corset

Next thing I will explain is how to make an underbust corset. When I have the time I will put it on here ^^ For now, here's the finished result.

tutu/petticoat

This was on my to do list for a very long time! I always wanted one but the lack of funds kept me from buying one. Don't worry the material isn't expensive at all!

Now, this wasn't my own design. I tried it before by just putting an elastic in a lot of tule, it was nice but details weren't. So I searched for a tutorial to make my own tutu/petticoat (whatever you want to call it) and found one on threadbanger. It's an amazing tutorial and easy to follow. I made some adjustments though.

1. Make the strips a bit higher because otherwise the skirt is too short.

2. Use some flowing fabric for the top part (cotton is not good here). I use satin (not expensive at all).

3. Put a layer of satin as the bottom layer or your skirt will be entirely see-through. If you want to wear it with some leggings or something like that, the tule wont get stuck to the legging.

Pleated skirt

I wanted to make a pleated skirt. It's a skirt that works for every occasion. Cosplay, going out, everyday use. It all depends on the fabric you use.

Here I used a grey and blue tartan fabric which is just lovely! I bought 2 metres (2.2 yards) of it, It was too much but 2 metres length was just right. You can buy less but I think it's easier to make it in one piece without sowing a couple of pieces together.

How to make it:

1. measure your hips at the widest point. This will be the length of the fabric for the top band of the skirt.

2. Cut out the length of the band and a height of 20 cm (7.9").

3. Now measure how long you want the skirt to be. You can make it as long as you want. Remember: You can always make it shorter, never longer!

4. Now cut out 2metres x height of the skirt.

5. pin the bottom part to the top part with pleats in it. Make sure the bottom part in the end is as long as the top part.

6. Sow the two parts together. Don't close the skirt yet!

7. Now pin the bottom half on either side together so you get a circle. Start at the middle seam.

8. Sow all the way along the pins. Just the bottom part of the skirt.

9. Now I used a zipper for my skirt. I pinned it between the two halves of the top part. So make sure your zipper is as long as the top half.

10. Sow the zipper into the skirt.

11. Now just do the edges by turning them over and sowing over them with a zig-zag stitch.

12. In the end I had to take in some fabric so it would fit me more around the hips.
